The Serbian Bakery, also known as Blue Door Bakery, is a small but bustling bakery tucked into the heart of Jackson’s Main Street. This spot draws in early risers and locals who know to arrive before mid-morning, as many of its most popular items — like the morning buns and artisan sourdough loaves — tend to disappear quickly. Don’t be surprised to find a line forming right at opening, a true sign of loyal patrons seeking quality baked goods and sandwiches crafted with care.

Inside, the bakery doesn’t offer seating, focusing instead on quick takeaways from its modest counter. The atmosphere is warm and inviting; it’s the kind of place run by a family that clearly takes pride in their work and welcomes regulars by name. Customers often mention the attentive, friendly service paired with food that feels homemade — as though you’re picking up treats freshly made by your grandma.

The bakery excels at bread, and it’s easy to understand why it has a reputation for having the best sourdough in the area. Alongside robust loaves, savory and sweet items made with puff pastry stand out — the morning buns, in particular, are known for their perfect balance of crispiness, stickiness, and chewiness, offering a complex texture that’s hard to replicate. Savory sandwiches, especially those featuring burrata, also find many repeat fans, suggesting the kitchen knows how to build sandwiches that satisfy without overcomplicating.

This is a spot that fits well into Jackson’s daily rhythm, especially for those starting their day or on a midday snack run. Because of the limited hours and quick sell-outs of their most popular items, a morning visit is best for grabbing the morning buns or a freshly baked loaf before the shelves look sparse. Visitors who primarily want to enjoy food on-site might find the lack of seating a limitation, but it reinforces the bakery’s focus on top-quality take-home goods.

In short, The Serbian/Blue Door Bakery is best for those who appreciate artisanal bread and thoughtfully prepared baked treats made with care, best enjoyed fresh and preferably early in the day. It appeals to locals who want a quick yet delicious stop for breakfast or lunch ingredients, in a space that’s small but deeply connected to its Jackson neighborhood.

If you are looking for delicious quality food made by amazing people then you need to visit Blue Door Bakery. When you stop in make sure to get one of their artisan sandwiches. They are all so good but my favorite is definitely their burrata special. They also have the best sourdough bread in the area. I always have to stop in and get a loaf and a side of their amazing balsamic sauce. Their chocolate chip cookies and morning buns are so delicious but my favorite is definitely their bran muffin. The owners are so friendly and amazing. You can tell they put love into everything they make. Definitely make sure to stop here the next time you are in Jackson. You won't regret it.

We went and had to buy a bit of everything because everything is so good! The bread is great! They use puff pastry dough for sweet and savory snacks. The puff pastry dough is on point! Both sweets and savory things are delicious! The must is the morning bun, it is amazing, sweet, sticky, crispy, soft and chewy!

Lovely family run business that clearly takes pride in its work and service. Amazing food served with smiles all around. You can feel and taste the love in this little shop. Highly recommend. Don't skip the focaccia.

Best in the area! This is place literally serves quality food. From bread, to sandwiches, and even sweet treats. I have tried most of their stuff, my favorite being the bread and balsamic vinegar. But the real prize to me is the chocolate chip cookies. Everything is made fresh, and it feels as though I am getting goodies from my grandma again. The staff are super sweet and very welcoming each time I come in. It's a little small bakery so it's more of a grab and go type of place, which is cool and fits the small town vibes. I also highly recommend coming when they open as they get busy and can sell out quick on some stuff. Overall 10/10!

Small little bakery with delicious food. No seating inside. Just a small counter. They open at 9am and close at 3pm or until evening is sold out. There was a line at 9am and we decided to come back at 10am. We were told by a local to get their morning buns and deli sandwiches. I wish we went to 9am because when we came back, they were all sold out of the morning buns! We didn't get their sandwiches because we were heading to lunch afterwards. Unfortunately they are closed the next day (on Sundays and Mondays). We did get their focaccia to go and it was so delicious. We also got their chocolate chip cookies and bran muffin. All yum!

Excellent little bakery, but get there EARLY & bring CASH! They were out of many items when we arrived 40 minutes after opening on a Saturday...fortunately, we were able to make do with delicious mushroom-onion-cheese turnovers, the last strawberry pastry they had (scrumptious), a chocolate chip cookie and a fresh loaf of sourdough. Makes a great half-way stop driving from Sacramento to Calaveras Big Trees; pick up your picnic here!

This hidden gem used to be all about the turnovers and bran muffins, but now it’s the go-to spot for incredible sandwiches. The turkey sandwich is a total flavor bomb—juicy, delicious, and crave-worthy. You might not even need the secret balsamic sauce! Try it and thank me later

I came to visit my family for a couple of days and my sister got me a morning bun my first morning here....I came back every morning to get one. The morning bun is one of the greatest things I've ever had. I'm sure the other 3 items they sell are great too, but that morning bun is magical. Bring your cash, $5 a bun and it is open 9am-3pm.
